Analysis of Pancreas Histological Images for Glucose Intolerance Identification using Wavelet Decomposition

    Get PDF
Subtle structural differencescan be observed in the islets of Langer-hans region of microscopic image of pancreas cell of the rats having normal glucose tolerance and the rats having pre-diabetic(glucose intolerant)situa-tions. This paper proposes a way to automatically segment the islets of Langer-hans region fromthe histological image of rat's pancreas cell and on the basis of some morphological feature extracted from the segmented region the images are classified as normal and pre-diabetic.The experiment is done on a set of 134 images of which 56 are of normal type and the rests 78 are of pre-diabetictype. The work has two stages: primarily, segmentationof theregion of interest (roi)i.e. islets of Langerhansfrom the pancreatic cell and secondly, the extrac-tion of the morphological featuresfrom the region of interest for classification. Wavelet analysis and connected component analysis method have been used for automatic segmentationof the images. A few classifiers like OneRule, NaĂŻve Bayes, MLP, J48 Tree, SVM etc.are used for evaluation among which MLP performed the best

Understanding policy intent and misconfigurations from implementations: consistency and convergence

    Get PDF
Abstract. We study the problem of inferring policy intent to identify misconfigurations in access control implementations. This is in contrast to traditional role-mining techniques, which focus on creating better abstractions for access control management. We show how raw metadata can be summarized effectively, by grouping together users with similar permissions over shared resources. Using these summary statements, we apply statistical techniques to detect outliers, which we classify as security and accessibility misconfigurations. Specifically, we show how our techniques for mining policy intent are robust, and have strong consistency and convergence guarantees

Impact of activated carbon contents on cabin air filter performance at different fume flow rates

    Get PDF
The present study has been undertaken to analyze the filtration performance of two different nonwoven polypropylene filter media, viz. needle felt and spun-bonded sandwiched with granular activated carbon of varying concentration under different face velocities. The materials are studied on a laboratory based cabin air filter test rig. Spun bonded material reveals relatively lower emission and pressure drop. Interestingly, lower face velocity reveals relatively improved filter behavior in case of both the filter materials. Further, a reduction in downstream emission in terms of PM2.5 & PM10, number concentration and peal pressure drop is observed at higher concentration of activated carbon.

Discretized streams: A fault-tolerant model for scalable stream processing

Abstract Many "big data" applications need to act on data arriving in real time. However, current programming models for distributed stream processing are relatively low-level, often leaving the user to worry about consistency of state across the system and fault recovery. Furthermore, the models that provide fault recovery do so in an expensive manner, requiring either hot replication or long recovery times. We propose a new programming model, discretized streams (D-Streams), that offers a high-level functional API, strong consistency, and efficient fault recovery. D-Streams support a new recovery mechanism that improves efficiency over the traditional replication and upstream backup schemes in streaming databasesparallel recovery of lost state-and unlike previous systems, also mitigate stragglers. We implement D-Streams as an extension to the Spark cluster computing engine that lets users seamlessly intermix streaming, batch and interactive queries. Our system can process over 60 million records/second at sub-second latency on 100 nodes

Putative Role of Moringa oleifera in Prophylaxis of Chemotherapy Induced Neuropathic Pain in Mice

    Get PDF
Cancer chemotherapy is associated with a plethora of morbidities among which neuropathic pain is a prevalent one. The pathology underpinning chemotherapy induced neuropathic pain can be multifarious, however, dearth of effective medication largely plagues the quality of life of such patients. A good rationale can be found behind focusing on herbal alternatives like extracts of Moringa oleifera for which anti-cancer potential has already been reported. Hence we have carried out a pilot study for evaluating the protective potential of the methanolic extract of the plant against paclitaxel induced neuropathic pain in mice. Our evaluation has been based on standard paradigms focusing on neuromotor, oxidative and histopathological assessments. We have found significant improvisation in groups treated with both pregabalin and extract, the amelioration being largely graded in nature. Hence our research has opened up the doors of a newer horizon of herbal alternatives available for chemotherapy induced neuropathic pain, however further look out into the domain is avidly awaited for. Local Inaccessibility of Random Classical Information : Conditional Nonlocality demands Entanglement

Discrimination of quantum states under local operations and classical communication (LOCC) is an intriguing question in the context of local retrieval of classical information, encoded in the multipartite quantum systems. All the local quantum state discrimination premises, considered so far, mimic a basic communication set-up, where the spatially separated decoding devices are independent of any additional input. Here, exploring a generalized communication scenario we introduce a framework for input-dependent local quantum state discrimination, which we call local random authentication (LRA). Referring to the term nonlocality, often used to indicate the impossibility of local state discrimination, we coin the term conditional nonlocality for the impossibility associated with the task LRA. We report that conditional nonlocality necessitates the presence of entangled states in the ensemble, a feature absent from erstwhile nonlocality arguments based on local state discrimination. Conversely, all the states in a complete basis set being entangled implies conditional nonlocality. However, the impossibility of LRA also exhibits more conditional nonlocality with less entanglement. The relation between the possibility of LRA and local state discrimination for sets of multipartite quantum states, both in the perfect and conclusive cases, has also been established. The results highlight a completely new aspect of the interplay between the security of information in a network and quantum entanglement under the LOCC paradigm.Comment: An appropriate example for Proposition 2 is added and the details of which is supplemented in the Appendi

Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Diabetes: An Association in Horizon

As we know inflammatory bowel disease is an emergent plight in rural and developing countries. In USA 10 million of peoples are suffering from IBD.IBD encompasses two pivotal kinds of pathological condition Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). Epidemiologically has a greater prevalence in the global prospective. So we decided to zero in on IBD in our work ahead. So a thorough search of available literature IBD is associated with plethora of comorbid disorders which includes gastrointestinal disorders arising from cholelithiasis, cutaneous disease like psoriasis, metabolic disorders like diabetes mellitus.
